On Thursday, April 2, 2015, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) hosted a live Twitter (hashtag #5084FEDs), inviting stakeholders to discuss how technology impacts Federal workers with disabilities.
The stated goal, according to Carlton Hadden, Director of EEOC’s Office of Federal Operations, was to "gather feedback from all stakeholders regarding Section 508 compliance within the Federal government. While we certainly want information about best practices, we also need information on any barriers to fostering greater accessibility."
The chat was hosted by EEOC Commissioner, Chai Feldblum, who was actively tweeting and posting pictures of her giving a thumbs-up to show how pleased she was with the participation and discussion. She was joined by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) all who deserve a virtual “like” for their efforts initiating, hosting, and sharing this event.
- improving the accessibility of social media in government,
- the role of 508 Coordinators in Federal Agencies,
- the need for better reporting, and
- more marketing of the GSA Vendor Accessibility Resource Center.
